Danielle McRae is one of the most talented voice over actresses in the videogame industry. She appeared in games such as League of Legends, World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, Metal Gear Solid: Philanthropy, StarCraft Universe and Skullgirls.
But, most importantly, she interprets the role of Rosemary Reed, the leading character in Remothered: Tormented Fathers! We’ve reached Danielle, who was so nice to answer to some questions about this experience.
Hi, Danielle! When was the first time you heard about Remothered?
I actually first heard about Remothered soon after I was cast as Rosemary. After I was cast the role, I did a lot of research on this game and found out that there was/is a pretty huge following for this game, which was an amazing surprise!
The characters in Remothered: Tormented Fathers all have a strong personality. They are ambiguous and there is no clear distinction between good and evil. What do you think about Rosemary?
First off, I really love how every character in the first chapter is extremely different and distinct from one another. They each play quite an important role instead of a secondary role, which is extremely appealing to me.
I love Rosemary’s curiosity and determination in finding the truth, as well as finding out what lies beyond the horizon in this story. I really look forward to growing with her and her character as her story progresses.
Is there something you and Rosemary have in common?
I feel like Rosemary and I share the same determination in getting the job done, no matter how difficult the task may be and doing what we feel is right in our hearts. I also feel like I share her same compassion as well.
Rosemary is a 35 year old woman who puts her life in danger because she absolutely wants to know the truth behind a mysterious event. What if you had to put yourself in Rosemary’s shoes? Do you think you would have done the same thing?
I think Rosemary is way more brave than I am! I don’t think I would be able to do what she does in this scenario. I’d probably run back home and play video games all day!
What was the thing you liked the most when working for this project?
What first struck me as impressive when I first worked on this project is how strong and badass Rosemary is, while staying feminine. It always amazes me whenever I see a female character in a video game, especially as a protagonist who has the ability to have a strong impact on the gaming experience as a whole, instead of become an accessory, no matter what the genre may be.
Rosemary is definitely a stand out for me and I feel like she’s the kind of character players would want to get to know and become invested in.
I also loved getting the chance to working with taking part in some of the voice directing with some of the cast during this chapter. It was definitely a first time for me!
Inside a horror title, voices and soundtrack in general have to convey emotions, they don’t just “inform” the player about the evolution of the story. How did you manage to evoke suspense and terror?
When I first booked the role of Rosemary, I first wanted to get to know who she was as a character. I read over her bio a few times just to gain an understanding her overall, which made me immediately fall into Rosemary’s character while having to gradually find a balance with her as the recording first took place.
Do you have any funny facts related to this experience you would like to share with us?
During a few of my lines for Rosemary, whenever I was being chased as Rosemary and had to scream, one or both of my cats would sometimes randomly cry out as if they thought I was seriously in danger. This actually happens quite a bit!
Will you play Remothered: Tormented Fathers? What do you think of it as a gamer?
I will definitely play it! I have a Twitch account that I sometimes use to stream a few games I would randomly play on occasion if I’m not too busy (that mostly involve Overwatch), but I would definitely love to play and stream this title day 1!
As a gamer, I am a huge survival horror fan, so when I found out about this game my heart instantly cried joyous tears! I feel like this game will make me feel excited to be scared, as I have been with other horror games I’ve played when I was younger, including the Resident Evil series, Siren, Eternal Darkness, Clock Tower and my all-time favorite, the Silent Hill series to name a few.
I’m honestly pretty excited about this one!
Is there something you would like to say to Remothered’s fans? Please, try to avoid spoilers!
Survive and don’t forget to take breaks! :)
